Hires Blair Brantley, 14-year Industry Veteran, to cover Regional Banks
New York – October 17, 2016 – Brean Capital, LLC today announces the hiring of Blair Brantley, CFA, as Managing Director and Senior Equity Research Analyst covering small and mid-cap banks. Mr. Brantley has covered the banking sector for over a decade and was named in 2016 by Thomson Reuters as the #2 stock picker for Banks and the #8 overall stock picker.
“We are very happy to add Blair and his Banking Industry research coverage to our institutional equity platform, “ said Pat Alianiello, Head of Equity Sales at Brean Capital. “We believe strongly in the equity stories of his coverage universe in a key sector of the US economy and his investor relationships overlap nicely with Brean Capital’s core institutional client base.” “I am excited to be at a full-service institutional firm that is dedicating significant resources to the commercial banking industry, “ said Mr. Brantley. “Regional bank stocks have had strong performance since the market’s February lows, driven by my themes of M&A consolidation, a stable US economy and an eventual return to a healthier interest rate environment. We continue to believe that regional banks play a vital role in financing the growth of small businesses and, therefore, of the US economy as a whole.”
“The addition of Blair’s coverage universe marks further expansion for our firm of our Financial Institutions practice led by George Holstead,” said Rob Fine, CEO of Brean Capital. “Over the last 2 years we have added in FIG 26 equity and fixed income sales & trading professionals, a dedicated FIG Capital Markets Origination team led by industry veteran Chris Hogg, a Structured Finance banking department, as well as additional hirings at Brean Strategic Advisors, our consulting and technology platform that focuses on regulatory and risk reporting, stress testing, big data projects and portfolio strategy. We now cover banks as capital markets issuers, as buyers and sellers of fixed income products and as optimizers of their own portfolios; while also covering institutional investors in bank stocks and debt securities through our sales & trading professionals, and now our equity research.”
Mr. Brantley was previously at BB&T Capital Markets, where he covered small and mid-cap banks. Prior to that, he covered mid-cap and large-cap banks at Sterne, Agee & Leach and was previously in Equity Research at Stifel, Nicholas & Company covering small-cap banks. Mr. Brantley holds his CFA and received his BA in Business & Economics from Randolph-Macon College.
